No matter who you are, an investment banker with millions or a laborer who works on wastewater pumps you can't do much without your health. This is a concern that will always be present in our life and the community of Newark wants its residents to feel that they always have access to the care that they need in difficult times. The Department of Child & Family Well-being is present to see that there is always great healthcare, social services, and environmental services available to the citizens of the city and surrounding area. They have several departments that focus on everything from the air we breathe to the monitoring of diseases running through the area. Here is a little more about each section of this organization.
If you have a question about a stray animal or some food that you ate at a food public relations event than you would want to talk to the people in the Environmental Health Division. They are responsible for Animal and Rodent Control, the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, the Food and Beverage Bureau, Lead Safe House, and Weights and Measures. Lead Safe House is a facility for children who have elevated lead blood levels. It is a place where they and their family can stay while their home is being made lead-safe. Weights and measures looks at every establishment in the city, from drycleaners to a hardware store that sells lead weights and monitors them for health and safety concerns.
The Health Planning Division was established in the fall of 2003 and is responsible for monitoring and making changes within the community that will reduce illness, premature death, environmental hazards, and help those with disabilities. They work in Grants Management, Information Technology, and with the Federal Ryan White Care Act and HOPWA. If you are moving from Armour Heights to the area you should check out the programs they offer and take care of.
Medical Care Services and Social Services are also part of this division. Medical Services has sections focusing on adult health, disease prevention and treatment, dental, healthcare for the homeless, infant mortality reduction, pediatrics, among other things. Social services will help you will food if you've been laid off from making tray packers or with nutrition for the elderly and has an office for the aging and one for children.
Lastly, there is the Surveillance and Prevention Office. This includes the Bureau of Vital Statistics, the Childhood Immunization Program, Communicable Disease Control, the Health Education Unit, and the Office of Bioterrorism, among other things. If you fear that there is an epidemic or disease running through your area than this is the office you should contact.
